About
Dr. Robert McNamara is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Franciscan University of Steubenville, and also teaches intermittently at the ITI Catholic University and the Maryvale Institute. Originally from Galway, Ireland, he holds a Ph.D. in philosophy with dissertation exploring Edith Stein’s engagement with Thomas Aquinas, which he later extensively revised and published as a book, The Personalism of Edith Stein: A Synthesis of Thomism and Phenomenology. His research focuses on anthropological and metaphysical themes in ancient, medieval, and phenomenological thinkers, with a particular emphasis on philosophical personalism.
Dr. McNamara is also an associate series editor of Edith Stein Studies, an associate scholar of the Hildebrand Project, and a founding member of the Aquinas Institute of Ireland (currently suspended). He has studied physics, computing, philosophy, and theology, bringing a multidisciplinary perspective to his work. He currently resides in Gaming, Austria, with his wife, Caroline, and their four children.

Doctor of Philosophy (2014-2018), with a dissertation titled Edith Stein’s Engagement with the Thought of Thomas Aquinas in Her Mature Philosophy of the Human Person, under the supervision of Mette Lebech and Marian Maskulak, defended before Christof Betschart and Stephen Yates.
